Program Description:

The Certified Pharmacy Technician is a 130-clock hour Program designed to prepare students for entry-level employment by teaching knowledge and the skills development required to work as a Pharmacy Technician in the pharmacy. The course prepares the Student to become nationally certified as a Pharmacy technician and gain employment as a nationally certified pharmacy technician. A Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician can gain employment in any of the following places: Retail or Community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, clinical pharmacy, industrial pharmacy, compounding pharmacy, consulting pharmacy, ambulatory care pharmacy, regulatory pharmacy, or home care pharmacy. Upon successful completion of the program at MedNoc Training College, graduates will be issued a Completion Certificate and a Training Completion Affirmation Form, making them eligible to take the National Certification Exam through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Once graduates pass the National Certification Examination, they shall be certified nationally as certified pharmacy technicians. After passing either the NHA or PTCB National Certification Exam, the Pharmacy Technician graduate will take the Oklahoma Pharmacy Technician Permit Exam under the Pharmacist's supervision during their initial employment. After passing, they will be issued with an Oklahoma Pharmacy Technician Permit.

Admission Requirements:

  1. Fill out an Application either online or in person.
  2. Complete the Enrollment Agreement in person or electronically.
  3. Minimum age: 18 Years.
  4. High School Diploma, GED, or another Equivalency, or higher.
  5. Current Government-issued Photo ID: e.g., driver’s license, passport, military card, green card, work authorization card, or tribal card
  6. Social Security Card or replacement letter from the Social Security Administration’s office.
  7. Criminal Background Screening. (Offered at MedNoc for a cost of $35.00).
  8. No history of drug abuse or arrest charges with controlled substances.
  9. Tuberculin (TB) Skin Test (PPD Test). (Offered at MedNoc for a cost of $35.00).
  10. Current BLS from American Heart Association required. (Offered at MedNoc for a cost of $60.00).
  11. Drug Test. (Offered at MedNoc for a cost of $50.00).
  12. During Flu Season, a Flu shot record may be required before attending clinical.

 ***NOTE: Some clinical sites may require additional requirements such as drug screens, immunization records, flu shots during flu season, or wearing a mask at the clinical site. The school will inform you if any of these items are required on the day of enrollment.

    • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  6. Communication Skills
    • Develop effective communication skills for interacting with patients, healthcare professionals, and insurance companies.
    • Demonstrate the ability to provide clear and accurate medication information to patients.
    • Handle customer service situations, including conflict resolution and patient counseling.
  7. Inventory Management
    • Learn the principles of inventory control, including ordering, receiving, and storing medications.
    • Understand the importance of managing drug recalls, expired medications, and controlled substances.
    • Utilize inventory management systems to maintain accurate records.
  8. Clinical and Administrative Support
    • Assist pharmacists in clinical tasks, such as medication therapy reviews and immunization support.
    • Perform administrative duties, including record-keeping, billing, and insurance claims processing.
    • Understand the basics of health information management and the role of pharmacy technicians in maintaining accurate patient records.

    • Recognize the importance of medication safety and error prevention.

National Certification Exam:

After successfully completing the Pharmacy Technician training program at MedNoc Training College, the Student will be permitted to take their National Certification Exam to be Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician through the National Healthcareer Association  NHA) or the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). It is the student's choice to select the certifying board of their choice. The NHA exam will be offered at an approved NHA testing site, and the PTCB exam will be offered at Pearson VUE Center.

 

NHA Eligibility For Certification Exam:

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma, GED, or higher.
  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Training program within the last 5 years.

 

NHA Certification Exam Details:

  • Multiple choices.
  • 100 questions, 20 pretest questions.
  • Exam time: 2 hours, 10 minutes.
  • Testing will take place at a PSI Testing Center near you.
  • You must present valid identification.
  • The test must be completed in one continuous session.

 

PTCB Eligibility For Certification Exam:

  1. High School Diploma or Equivalency or higher (e.g., a GED or a foreign diploma) *.
  2. Completion of PTCB-Recognized Education/ Training Program within 60 days of application submission.
  3. Full disclosure of all criminal and State Board of Pharmacy registration or licensure actions.
  4. Compliance with all applicable PTCB Certification policies.

 

PTCE Exam Details:

  • The PTCE is a computer-based exam with 90 multiple-choice questions (80 scored questions and 10 unscored questions). Unscored questions are randomly placed throughout the exam and are not identified.
  • Be prepared to commit 2 hours for the exam (5-minute tutorial, 1 hour and 50-minute exam, and 5-minute post-exam survey).
  • Your unofficial exam result will be presented on the screen immediately following the post-exam survey. You may also receive a printed copy of the unofficial exam result at the test site. Official exam results will be posted to your PTCB Account within two to three weeks.

 

Oklahoma Pharmacy Technician Permit:

The student who has completed the training program, passed the national certification exam and gained employment at the pharmacy may request the pharmacist to initiate the process of obtaining the Oklahoma Pharmacy Technician Permit.

 

Requirements Oklahoma Pharmacy Technician Permit:

  1. $40 Application Fee Receipt (Must Be Paid Online).
  2. Citizenship Affidavit (Verifying Citizenship or Alien Status).
  3. Copy of Driver’s License, State ID, or Work Authorization Card (This must be a clear copy showing both the picture and identifiable information).
  4. Full disclosure of all criminal and State Board of Pharmacy registration or licensure actions.
